Can you perform according to the roots of the art? Have you ridden your techniques of unnecessary movements? Are your blows sufficiently coordinated, fast and powerful enough? For all this to be something useful in a fight and not just good technical drills, you will have to learn about cadence and timing. You will achieve it only after hard practice in combat, which is how you will learn to realize your actions in the right moment and in close connection with your opponent. Learning to fight is much more than properly training on the focus mitts. It is about knowing how to apply it to circumstances in which every action of yours is tightly related to those of your opponent’s. Cadence and timing are the fighter’s wisdom.
